It is a fact that resveratrol levels in red wine differ. Resveratrol content benefits of this antioxidant have been fiercely debated. However, further studies are showing that various health benefits are given by resveratrol. It is quite disappointing that the anti-aging property of the compound has spurred the most media attention. Though this has gained widespread interest, resveratrol does have benefits of far greater significance.

All studies conducted in the past were done on laboratory animals. As such, there are obvious limitations on how the test results will translate for human beings. The investigations were done primarily to discover if this is the mythical fountain of youth that has eluded man for so long. Later tests on people have shown greater possibilities for resveratrol. These studies claim that this antioxidant is effective in lowering cholesterol and as such, is good for heart conditions and have shown anti-cancer properties.

Resveratrol content benefits may only be had if you select the right product. Although red wine and grapes are popular resveratrol sources, not all are created equal. If you opt not to drink and have grapes, choose the dark purple or dark red varieties while staying clear of the green ones. The dark colored variants have higher concentrations of resveratrol on the grape skin. On the other hand, as to what type of red wine to consume, this is far less clear. Serious research on resveratrol content in red wine is being carried out fairly recently and until its conclusion is realised, there’s no sure way to tell. As such, it will be prudent to consume different red wines for now. In that case, red wines with low resveratrol content benefits will be offset with those having higher ones.

Taking resveratrol supplements is the only reliable way to consume concentrated levels of the antioxidant.

The choice is in your hands. Whatever you decide, your health will surely have much to gain.
